Mexico's 800 numbers are free only for callers inside Mexico, and most of them do not take calls from the US at all. Banks, the consulates, the SAT and the Afore system publish numbers that do, some of them free US toll-free lines. Those numbers are below, each checked on an official page. From this browser, any number in Mexico rings for $0.07 a minute.
Paste it the way it was written, with or without +52. We tell you whether it takes calls from the US.
A Mexican 800 number is paid for by the company that owns it, for calls that start inside Mexico. Most companies do not pay for calls from other countries, so from the US the call ends in an error message or silence, whether you dial 011 52 800 and the number from a US phone, use a calling app, or use this browser. The guide to calling Mexico from the US explains the rest of the format.
Some organizations say so outright: the Mexican government's directory for Mexicans abroad marks the IMSS line 800 623 23 23 as reachable only from Mexico (gob.mx).
Numbers printed before August 2019 start with 01 800. Mexico dropped the 01 (and the 044 and 045 in front of mobiles) on August 3, 2019, when it moved to 10-digit dialing (IFT), so 01 800 123 4567 is now 800 123 4567, with the same problem from abroad.
What works is the line the organization publishes for callers outside Mexico, usually a Mexico City, Guadalajara or Monterrey number, sometimes even a US toll-free number. It is often labelled desde el extranjero or desde Estados Unidos on the contact page, and banks print it on the back of the card.
Each number was read on an official page, the organization's own or its government's, linked in the last column, on October 28, 2026. Where an organization lists no line for callers abroad, its regular number in Mexico is given: it takes calls from the US. For a bank card, the number on the back of your card is the one to trust.

From this browser a number in Mexico costs $0.07 a minute, and a US number $0.02 a minute. A US toll-free number in the table is free from a US phone.
$0.07 a minute to landlines and mobiles alike, with no connection fee and no subscription. You only pay for a call that is answered, so a long wait on hold is the main cost to plan for.
Your first call is on us: every new account starts with $1.00 in free credit, about 15 minutes to Mexico, no card needed. Prices updated October 31, 2026.
Mexico City has kept the same clock all year since Mexico ended daylight saving time in 2022 (Cancún and Quintana Roo are an hour ahead of it, and much of the border follows US time). So from November to March Mexico City is on Chicago time, one hour behind New York and two ahead of Los Angeles, and from March to November it is one hour behind Chicago, two behind New York and one ahead of Los Angeles. Call during Mexico City business hours on weekdays unless the table says a line is open longer.
Take the number from the organization's own website or the back of your card, never from an ad, a social media comment or a search snippet: fake bank and SAT numbers are a common fraud.
Have what they will ask for in front of you: your card or account number, your CURP or RFC for the SAT, your NSS for the IMSS, your booking code for an airline.
Expect the menu in Spanish first. Some lines offer English, but not all of them.
Your call reaches them from a US number, not the phone on your account, so expect them to confirm who you are in another way, for example with a code sent to your phone or email.
Use earbuds or a headset and a steady Wi-Fi connection if you call from a laptop: waits on hold can be long.
This service is not for emergency calls. For an emergency in Mexico, the person there should dial the local emergency number from a local phone.
Usually not. A Mexican 800 number is free for callers inside Mexico and is paid for by the company, which normally accepts only calls from Mexico, so from the US the call fails, from a US phone and from calling apps alike. Call the regular number the organization publishes for callers outside Mexico instead.
No. Mexico dropped the 01 long-distance prefix, together with 044 and 045 for mobiles, on August 3, 2019, when it moved to 10-digit dialing. A number written 01 800 123 4567 is now dialed 800 123 4567 inside Mexico.
From a US phone dial 011 52 and the 10-digit number, for example 011 52 55 1234 5678 for Mexico City. From a mobile you can also dial +52 and the 10 digits. Do not add a 1 after 52 for a mobile: that was dropped as well.
Calling collect or a US toll-free number the bank publishes is free where one exists. Otherwise it is an ordinary international call to Mexico, billed by whatever you call with. From this browser you only pay for a call that is answered, and the price shows before it rings.
No. WhatsApp calls only reach other WhatsApp users, and an 800 number is an ordinary phone line. Use the organization's number for callers abroad, which any service that calls phone numbers can reach.
$0.07 a minute to any regular number in Mexico, landline or mobile, with no connection fee and no subscription. You only pay for a call that is answered, and the price shows before it rings. Every new account starts with $1.00 in free credit, about 15 minutes to Mexico.
Need the other direction? Calling a US 1-800 number from abroad covers US toll-free lines from Mexico and everywhere else, and how to call Mexico from the US covers every other number there.
Type the number, see the price, and talk. Nothing to install, and a new account's first 15 minutes are on us.
